Dakota Hoska

My work is strongly motivated by theme, and this natural tendency is an asset to me when I’m working with clients. I enjoy listening to their stories and then consolidating their impressions into concise images that encompass all the nuances of their business or promotional program.
My work employs color and texture to engage and surprise the viewer.  I strive to convey the emotional aspect of my subject as well as the physical, producing work that is both technically and psychologically interesting.  I like my work to be accessible to a general audience, but I also strive to maintain an elusive quality in my pieces.   My hope is that my work is like a good book— it quickly engages an audience but also allows the reader to continue to ponder the experience long after the initial reading is complete.
Putting clients at ease with the artistic commission experience is important to me.  I am sensitive to the fact that working with a professional artist is new for many of them, and so I strive to create an atmosphere where clients can comfortably express their ideas and expectations.
Most recently, my artwork has been exhibited at the following venues:

This is Displacement exhibit, travelling nationally (currently and through 2011)
Foot in the Door, Minneapolis Institute of Art (2010)
Awake Exhibit, Boynton Health Services (2009)
 Eco-Art Exhibit, Vesper College (2009)
